Suicide prevention funding awarded to Marquette County

MARQUETTE, MI— The Marquette County Health Department has received a grant from the State of Michigan for suicide prevention activities.

The funding is geared toward young adults ages 18-24 who aren’t enrolled in a four-year university. Health officials say Marquette County experiences higher than average rates for suicide in that population. The rate for young adults from 2015 to 2019 was 20.8 per 100,000, compared nationally to
13.53 per 100,000.

Goals of the grant include outreach activities, suicide prevention gatekeeper training to area organizations, businesses, and community groups and holding support groups in Marquette and Ishpeming for survivors of suicide loss.

For more information or to schedule suicide prevention training, contact the Marquette County Health Department.
