Masks required again for NMU classes and labs

MARQUETTE, MI— Northern Michigan University is reinstating its mask mandate for classes and labs.

Marquette County was recently moved into the CDC’s high transmission category for COVID-19 because of the rising number of cases.

President Kerri Schuiling says although the CDC recommends wearing a mask in all indoor settings for high-transmission areas, NMU is only mandating masks for classrooms and labs starting Monday, August 1. Case numbers on campus remain moderate.

The university is encouraging people to wear a mask when indoors, but it remains a personal choice outside of close quarters like classes and labs.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
