NMU officials recommend COVID test before start of winter term

MARQUETTE, MI— NMU President Kerri Schuilling is asking the campus community to consider doing an at-home COVID test before returning for classes next week.

She says last semester, cases in the Marquette area vacillated between low and medium transmission levels. Schuilling notes there’s a new omicron variant—XBB 1.5—that appears to be highly transmissible. The Midwest is beginning to see an bump up in cases, and state officials are expecting to see numbers increase.

Schuilling says Northern will continue to monitor for signs or reports of surges and take appropriate action.

Classes begin on Tuesday.
