GLRC receives money to construct John Kivela Center

NEGAUNEE, MI— Great Lakes Recovery Centers is receiving significant funding to transform the former Teal Lake Medical Clinic into the John Kivela Center.

West End Health Foundation is pledging $300,000 over the next five years for the project. GLRC also secured $2.8 million from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The group continues to work with state and local entities to get the rest of the funding needed for the project.

Once renovated, the 33,000 square-foot building will house a residential treatment facility for women with substance use disorder issues and their children; Sue B’s House—a recovery house for women and their children; Negaunee Integrated Care Clinic; and Child and Adolescent Specialty Services.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
