Iron Mountain VA facilty wins national award

Department of Veterans Affairs

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain has won the 2022 Best Overall Experience Award from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The center received the accolade last week during the Customer Experience Award Ceremony in Washington D.C. It’s the only VA medical center to receive a Best Patient Experience Award for five consecutive years—every year since the award’s inception.

The facility was previously awarded the Best Experience Award for Level 3 facilities in 2018, 2019 and 2021, and its first Best Overall Experience Award in 2020.

Oscar G. Johnson VAMC has also been given a five-star rating for quality by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in every category, which is the top rating possible.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
