MARQUETTE, MI— State Representative Jenn Hill held a town hall meeting in Marquette Monday night to talk about controlling prescription drug costs.
At Peter White Library, Hill and members of the healthcare field discussed the creation of a Prescription Drug Affordability Board—or PDAB. The five-member board would evaluate drug costs and establish upper payment limits on certain drugs sold in the state.
Hill said members of the PDAB could not have ties to politics or drug companies.
“These would be entirely folks who have no personal or financial stake in the pharmaceutical industry who would be considering what these costs are and setting these upper limits.”
Six states have already adopted bills authorizing Prescription Drug Affordability Boards. The Michigan Senate passed PDAB legislation in October. Hill said she’s urging lawmakers in the House to pass it, as well.
