SIOUX FALLS, SD— Sanford Health and Marshfield Clinic Health System are planning to merge.
Sanford, based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is the largest rural health system in the country. Marshfield is a health system serving rural Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula.
In a press release Wednesday, the organizations announced a nonbinding memorandum of understanding to combine their assets and capabilities and create an integrated health system dedicated to advancing care in the rural Midwest.
The name of the parent company will be Sanford when the merger is complete, and the headquarters will be in Sioux Falls. Marshfield Clinic Health System will be a region within Sanford Health and maintain regional leadership with its flagship medical campus in Marshfield, Wisconsin.
