Aspirus to resume contract talks with Ironwood nurses following accusations of unfair labor practices

IRONWOOD, MI— Executives with Aspirus Ironwood have agreed to meet with a nurse bargaining team after the Michigan Nurses Association filed an unfair labor practice charge against the hospital.

The MNA issued a press release Tuesday stating nurses have been bargaining with Aspirus since May 6 on a new contract. The old one expired August 2 and the last bargaining session was on August 21. Nurses say Aspirus has refused to schedule further dates for negotiations.

About two hours after the press release was issued, Aspirus agreed to meet with the union.

The nurses held a rally last week to protest the corporation’s planned closure of the Ironwood hospital’s OB unit and advocate for a fair contract.
