IRON RIVER, MI— Nurses at Aspirus Iron River are holding a rally Friday for a fair contract, amid claims the hospital is cutting more services.
Administration says the hospital will end coverage for emergency surgeries overnight, effective October 26. Aspirus has eliminated most certified nurse aid positions in Iron River. Those responsibilities now belong to charge nurses on emergency and medical-surgical units.
Iron River RNs with the Michigan Nurses Association say bargaining for a new contract will start soon. Their current contract expires December 31.
The rally will be held Friday at 4:30 p.m. Central in the lot next to KFC in Iron River.
