MARQUETTE, MI— Pollutants from wildfire smoke and ash are expected to be in the Hazardous to Unhealthy level for the state through Friday.

As of 6 a.m. Eastern Friday, the Air Quality Index Score at a monitoring station in Negaunee Township was 184, or Unhealthy. In Seney, it was 237, or Very Unhealthy.

Officials urge people to stay indoors as much as possible and keep windows closed. Avoid activities that make indoor air quality worse, such as burning candles, using vacuums without a HEPA filter, using gas stoves more than necessary, smoking, and spraying aerosol products.

If you have to be outside for short periods of time, wear an N95 or P100 respirator marked with NIOSH.

Up-to-date air quality data is at www.michigan.gov/miair.
