Hunt on for state's next Christmas tree

LANSING, MI— Even though it’s only April, officials are looking for the next state Christmas tree.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget has officially kicked off the search for a tree to grace the Capitol grounds for the 2025 holiday season.

To be considered, the tree must be a spruce or fir and at least 60 feet tall with a maximum crown of 24 feet and maximum trunk diameter of 30 inches. There must be easy access to the road with no interference from wires, and it must be available at no cost.

The deadline for tree nominations is Monday, August 18. Individuals who would like to nominate a tree are asked to email their name, telephone number, a photograph of the tree, and information about its size and location to ChristmasTree@michigan.gov.
