Capitol Christmas tree to come from the Soo this year

LANSING, MI— A spruce from Sault Ste. Marie has been chosen as the state’s 39th Christmas tree.
Resident Linda Reid donated the 68-foot tree in honor of her grandparents.

The tree will be harvested October 30 and transported to Lansing with help from the Michigan Association of Timbermen, the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association, and a Christmas tree crew with the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.

Once in place, the City of Lansing's forestry team will prepare the tree for the lighting scheme and decorations developed by the Michigan Capitol Commission and the Lansing Board of Water & Light.

The entire journey will culminate with a tree-lighting ceremony on November 21, at the 41st Annual Silver Bells in the City celebration.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
