Residents can donate 3 ways at Marquette food drive

MARQUETTE, MI— The United Way of Marquette County has coordinated a food drive that will take place Friday and Saturday in front of the Marquette Walmart.

Shoppers can donate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days and can give in three different ways.

First, nonperishable food items will be collected as part of the TV6 Canathon. All items donated to the TV6 Canathon will be distributed to local food pantries, including The Salvation Army Marquette and St. Vincent de Paul Marquette. For more information on the TV6 Canathon, visit www.tv6canathon.com.

Second, perishable items will be collected by local nonprofits, including Community Action Alger-Marquette, Great Lakes Recovery Centers, Janzen House, Lake Superior Village Youth & Family Center, Negaunee Senior Citizen’s Center, Propylon Nonprofit Housing, Room at the Inn, and the Women’s Center.

Third, the United Way will accept monetary donations to support food security programs throughout the region.
