Gwinn nonprofits receive grants

GWINN, MI— The Gwinn Area Community Fund has awarded grants to several area nonprofits during its fall grant cycle.

The Community Foundation of Marquette County says the Gwinn fund received a $25,000 contribution from a private donor.

The Gwinn affiliate fund board reviewed 20 applications. It awarded money to the Gwinn Saint Vincent DePaul facility, the Gwinn Seed Library, Forsyth Senior Center, Sawyer Community Enrichment Programs, and the Skandia Township Recreational Facilities.

The goal of this grant cycle was to support start-up and existing programs that enhance the quality of life in Ewing, Forsyth, Sands, Skandia, Turin, Wells, and West Branch townships.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
