'Coats for Kids' receives winter wear for MAPS students

MARQUETTE, MI— The Marquette Area Public Schools District was able to purchase winter wear for students who need it, thanks to recent donations.

The Kaufman Foundation and JP Electric supplied funding for the “Coats for Kids” campaign. It’s aimed at outfitting school-aged children with basic necessities to withstand the harshest season.

Superintendent Zach Sedgwick says the money allowed the district to purchase 61 coats, 73 snow pants, 90 pairs of boots, 62 hats, and 85 pairs of mittens and gloves.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
