HANCOCK, MI— The Keweenaw Community Foundation has created a fund to bring a library millage question to voters in Hancock and Franklin, Quincy, and Hancock Townships.
The newly formed Hancock Area District Library will have a millage proposal on the November ballot. If voters approve it, the millage would allow HADL to fund services like having a librarian on staff, staffed hours beyond the school day, new material purchases, and programming.
The services are provided through a contract with Portage Lake District Library, which is set to end next March.
The KCF’s Hancock Area District Library Special Project Fund seeks to raise $10,000 to cover the legal and administrative costs of placing the question on the ballot. It would also pay for educational materials that inform residents about the millage and help with operating expenses for the new library.
