UNDATED— Michigan is holding a statewide tornado drill Wednesday.
Michigan State Police and the Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division are encouraging residents to take part in the voluntary drill at 1 p.m.
MSP Colonel Joe Gasper says the state experiences an average of 15 tornadoes each year, and the drill will give people a chance to make a plan and put it to the test. During the drill, residents will see or hear alerts on NOAA Weather radios, TV and radio stations.
The average lead time for tornadoes to develop is 10 to 15 minutes. That means residents need to be ready to quickly react when a warning is issued.
