Delta County Road Commission asks residents to be patient as snow removal continues

ESCANABA, MI— Delta County is still struggling to dig out from record snowfall earlier this week.

The Delta County Road Commission says it still hasn’t been able to open every county road. Officials say some roads have snow drifts that even plow trucks cannot tackle. They’re bringing in larger equipment to wrangle deep, compacted snow. Crews are constantly getting stuck, which is prolonging cleanup efforts. Officials are asking residents to be patient.

On Tuesday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency in Delta County, along with six downstate counties. By doing so, the governor has authorized the use of all available state resources to assist local response and recovery operations.

The Governor has also declared a state of energy emergency for the entire state, in order to ensure the speedy delivery of heating fuel to affected people.
