Hot and muggy conditions lead into UP thunderstorms

MARQUETTE, MI— Temperatures in the U.P. will continue to soar over the next couple of days, and strong to severe thunderstorms will threaten the region.

The National Weather Service says hot and muggy conditions are on tap through Thursday, but temps will likely stay below heat advisory levels.

There’s a chance of thunderstorms starting Wednesday afternoon. Some may be severe with damaging wind, hail, flash flooding, and possibly an isolated tornado. The NWS says campers and those with outdoor plans should continue to monitor the forecast, stay weather aware, and have a way to receive a warning should one be issued.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
