NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI— The National Weather Service has confirmed at least three tornadoes were spawned by severe storms in the Upper Peninsula last week.
Monday around 6:31 p.m. Eastern, a waterspout formed on Lake Superior off of Shot Point. It apparently moved on shore, but no damage was found.
At 6:47 Central, a tornado formed in Menominee County’s Gourley Township. The NWS says its peak wind was 104 mph, its width was 35 yards, and the length traveled was 0.14 miles. It damaged stands of white pines.
And at 6:48 Central time, another tornado touched down about 5 miles from the previous one, in Ford River Township’s Fuller Park. It damaged a stand of softwood trees, then shifted offshore. It had a peak wind speed of 90 mph, a maximum width of about 25 yards, and a length of 0.3 miles.
The last two tornadoes were classified as EF-1. No injuries were reported.
