USDA gives loans, grants for municipal infrastructure upgrades

MARQUETTE, MI— The U.S. Department of Agriculture is investing in five Upper Peninsula infrastructure projects.

More than $5.2 billion is going to 46 states and Puerto Rico through the recently passed federal Infrastructure Law.

  • The Torch Lake Area Sewage Authority in Houghton County is getting a $3 million grant to add lagoons and improve lagoon equipment
  • Ontonagon County’s Carp Lake Township will use a $713,000 loan and $1.2 million grant to replace more than two miles of sewer main and replace Lift Station #5 completely
  • Sagola Township in Dickinson County is getting a $529,000 loan and $732,000 grant to replace and upgrade the Sagola and Channing lift stations and replace other infrastructure
  • The city of Negaunee will use a $5.5 million loan for water system improvements
  • The Ontonagon County Rural Electrification Association will use an $8,285,000 loan to connect 162 consumers and build and improve 92 miles of line.
