Wintry mix of precipitation cuts power to thousands of UP residents

accesswdun.com

MARQUETTE, MI— A combination of snow, rain, freezing rain and sleet wreaked havoc on Upper Peninsula roadways and power lines Wednesday, as cooler temperatures turned precipitation into ice.

Tree branches fell onto slush-covered roadways and utility poles were downed in winds gusting up to 40 mph, cutting electricity to thousands of customers across the region covered by winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories.

Utility crews continue to repair damaged power lines and will likely continue those efforts through the night. Residents are asked to stay away from all downed lines and assume they are energized.
