MARQUETTE, MI— A couple of road projects kick off in the U.P. right after the Independence Day holiday.

In Iron County, 6.5 miles of M-189 from the Wisconsin state line to north of Hiawatha Road will be resurfaced. Work starts July 5 and should be completed by the middle of September.

In Houghton County, 2.2 miles of M-26 from 21st Street to Lake Linden will be resurfaced. That also starts on Tuesday and will be finished in August.

And routine scheduled maintenance on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge will be performed Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, June 29-30. The work will require several bridge lifts, up to 30 minutes each. The lifts are scheduled to begin after 11 Wednesday night and be completed by 6 a.m. Thursday.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
