Michigan backing away from road work over Labor Day holiday

LANSING, MI— The state will make it easier for people to drive over this Labor Day weekend.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is moving orange barrels to the side of the road and lifting lane restrictions on 96 of 162 road and bridge projects statewide.

Friday through Tuesday morning, restrictions will be removed and operations suspended in most MDOT work zones, but equipment and certain traffic configurations—like temporary shifts and shoulder closures—may remain in place.

Drivers are reminded that the Mackinac Bridge will be closed to traffic on Labor Day from 6:30 a.m. to noon for the annual Bridge Walk.
