UP airport gets funding to revamp runways

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— The Chippewa County International Airport is getting more than $1.4 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The grant will be used to repair runways and taxiways that have reached the end of their useful life.

The money comes through the Federal Aviation Administration grant program, which is supported through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law enacted in 2021.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
