MDOT lowering speed limit, extending construction project in UP

MARQUETTE, MI— Bridge construction in Iron County will lower the posted speed limit starting Friday.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says work on US-141 over the East Branch of the Net River will require a temporary 25 mph speed limit.

The reduction is being implemented in lieu of an extensive detour. It’s needed to successfully complete deck pouring.

The decreased limit will last through Tuesday at 8 a.m.

And construction on US-41 between Negaunee and Marquette Township will last longer than expected. It was initially supposed to finish this month but is now slated to be completed in October.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
