ST. IGNACE, MI— The Mackinac Bridge Authority has approved a new fee for escorting oversize commercial vehicles across the span.
Starting January 29th, 2024, it will cost $100 to get an escort for heavy, over-width, and over-length vehicles. Oversize loads include commercial vehicles that weigh more than 80,000 pounds, are wider than 10 feet, or are longer than 90 feet.
The MBA says the fee will help recoup escort labor and equipment costs.
The bridge sees an average of about 1,700 oversize commercial vehicles each year.
