DICKINSON COUNTY, MI— A Dickinson County bridge has been closed after it was deemed unsafe.
The Michigan Department of Transportation inspected the DNR’s Kamichik Bridge over the Sturgeon River on Tuesday. The bridge is on Cassidy Creek Road, about 5 miles north of Waucedah.
Inspectors discovered the east abutment footing was undermined over nearly its entire width and determined the bridge should be closed immediately. Detours are posted.
In the meantime, Department of Natural Resources staffers are exploring costs and methods to repair the aging span that dates back at least several decades.
