Kingsford to revamp drinking water infrastructure with USDA money

USDA

KINGSFORD, MI— The City of Kingsford is getting funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to strengthen its infrastructure.

A $4.4 million loan will replace drinking water distribution mains and associated valves and hydrants that were originally installed in the 1920's. The 100-year-old system has been experiencing increased breakages as it exceeds its useful lifespan.

Investment from the State Revolving Fund makes up 67 percent of the total project and includes the replacement of lead service lines to residences.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
