CALUMET, MI— The Keweenaw Community Foundation has established a special project fund to revitalize historic downtown Calumet.
The Bring Back Calumet Initiative Fund aims to preserve the village’s industrial heritage while fostering economic growth and redevelopment.
The first significant fundraising campaign under the fund is the Save the Ruppe Building project. Officials want to prevent the collapse of one of Calumet’s most important historical structures and prepare it for future use.
Phase I of the restoration plan includes emergency stabilization at a cost of $200,000. Phase II will focus on structural restoration, including construction of a new back wall and roof. The estimated cost is around $600,000.
