ISHPEMING, Mi— The City of Ishpeming is thanking the public for its patience as construction continues in some areas.
Officials say many of the recent projects have taken longer than anticipated because contractors have been working with old underground infrastructure. In some locations, the water, sewer, and storm systems date back decades, and detailed records of what’s in the ground are not always available. Crews will often uncover conditions that must be addressed before moving forward.
Officials add utility systems must be replaced in phases. Contractors need to complete work on water lines before moving on to sewer and storm systems, which means the same streets may be reopened multiple times during the process.
