MARQUETTE AND MUNISING, MI— The cities of Marquette and Munising are getting nearly $1.4 million in federal funding for Transportation Alternative Program initiatives.
The Michigan Department of Transportation has allocated $908,386 to Munising for its 1.2-mile Safe Routes to School project. The money will be used to improve crosswalk and sidewalk connectivity to local schools, in an effort to amplify safety for the entire K-12 student population.
Marquette is getting $482,864 dollars for its Wilson Street multi-use path extension project. It will be used to create pathways to give an aging population a safe and direct connection to an existing nonmotorized system, as well as direct walking access to food and services.
