Food drive for kids to be held in Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI--   The Escanaba Department of Public Safety is raising awareness of hunger in the area by holding a food drive at Elmer’s County Market.

Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. officers will collect donations and divide them between five schools that participate in the Community Foundation for Delta County’s “Feed the Kids” backpack program.  Officials fill backpacks with easy-open and easy-to-prepare food and give them to needy and impoverished youth who are enrolled in the program.  The food is meant to carry kids through weekends and extended breaks from school.

From 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Hundley will sign autographs in exchange for a listed food item, the purchase of a food donation bag, or a goodwill cash donation.

For more information, call 786-5911.
