New troopers headed to U.P.

MARQUETTE, MI--   Five new Michigan State Police troopers will report to work at Upper Peninsula posts Monday.

The officers are part of a group of 41 who completed the 131st Trooper Recruit School, which held its graduation Wednesday in Lansing.

One trooper each will be assigned to the St. Ignace, Negaunee, Wakefield, Calumet, and Iron Mountain Posts.

They’ll be sporting new Campaign hats, a nod to what officers wore until the early 1920s.  State Police voted for the change in honor of the department’s 100th anniversary, which will be celebrated throughout 2017.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
