Hunter stranded in Champion Township helped by MCSO

CHAMPION TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office assisted a stranded hunter over the weekend.

Alan Mager, 62, of Negaunee was deer hunting in an area north of Dishno Lake in Champion Township when his UTV broke down. He says he had to walk a while before he could call 911 for help.

Around 5 p.m. Central Dispatch was able to get a GPS location from the call and relay it to deputies and Search and Rescue personnel. Mager was found a short time later in good condition. He didn’t require medical attention and was taken to his residence by deputies.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
