School threats will be fully prosecuted, Houghton Sheriff's officials say

HOUGHTON, MI— A number of threats made to school districts has prompted the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office to increase police presence at area schools.

Officials say an investigation has revealed unsubstantiated internet threats and rumors consistent with threats made across the state after the Oxford shooting. The Sheriff’s Office is working closely with superintendents and local law enforcement on the matter. More officers will be placed at schools starting Monday.

Sheriff’s officials say any threat made toward a school will be taken seriously and prosecuted fully.

Parents are encouraged to monitor their children’s electronic devices, tell them to be aware of any threats made, and if they see something, say something. Reports can be made at 911, local law enforcement agencies, or OK2SAY at www.michigan.gov/ok2say.
