New chief prosecutor in Delta County

ESCANABA, MI— Delta County Prosecutor Brett Gardner has resigned from his post.

He served as chief assistant prosecutor in Muskegon County for 24 years before being appointed in Delta County in May 2018. His resignation was effective Monday.

In a press release Tuesday, the Prosecutor’s Office said Gardner focused on placing victims first and prioritizing the drug response in Delta County. He worked closely with local police to increase the number of drug arrests and convictions. Gardner appointed his chief assistant, Lauren Wickman, as “drug prosecutor.”

Wickman will immediately take over as acting prosecutor.

Whoever wins the November General Election will fill the remaining two years of Gardner’s term.
