Baraga County Sheriff's Office to procure new equipment

BARAGA, MI— Equipment is getting upgraded at the Baraga County Sheriff’s Department.

County Commissioners approved the upgrade of tasers and computer systems this week. Tasers that will be given to deputies will now fire

10 shots instead of one before needing to recharge. The costs will be covered by COVID relief funds.

A new unified computer system will also be put in place rather than using multiple systems. Sheriff Joe Brogan says records are currently being kept in three separate systems.

“This is going to cut down our deputies’ time at the desk considerably so they can be out patrolling more, answering calls more, instead of sitting at the office doing paperwork.”

The system will be run by Core Technology. Commissioners approved a payment of $84,000 for the software.

Other law enforcement agencies in Baraga County are also considering a switch to the unified system, which would allow units to share information with each other.
