Alger warden awarded by MDOC

MUNISING, MI— The warden of the Alger Correctional Facility has been honored by the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Catherine Bauman was given the MDOC’s Director’s Award this week in Lansing. The award is the highest honor bestowed on a MDOC employee in recognition of their outstanding job performance and professionalism throughout the year.

Bauman began her career as a corrections officer at Camp Cusino in 1993. She served in several different roles at the Alger and Newberry Correctional Facilities before becoming warden in Munising.

Bauman is credited with supporting her staff, working on weekends to provide relief to corrections officers, and focusing on the morale of her team.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
