Disruptive incident at Baraga prison brings in teams from Alger County

BARAGA, MI— Help had to be brought into the Baraga Correctional Facility on Friday, after some prisoners became disruptive.

The Michigan Department of Corrections says inmates became disruptive and loud in one of the Level V units. Officers responded, but the prisoners did not immediately follow directions and some threatened staff.

All prisoners remained secure in their cells throughout the situation, and staff were in control of the facility.

Eight inmates who failed to follow directions were removed from their cells by trained teams from the Baraga and Alger Correctional Facilities. They were placed in segregation cells.

No injuries were reported, and the facility remained quiet over the weekend.
