Barricaded individual in Iron Mountain subdued with bean bag rounds

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— An incident involving a barricaded individual with a gun ended without serious injury last week in Iron Mountain.

On Friday, the Iron Mountain Police Department responded to a residence on the north side of town. When they arrived, officers heard a gunshot fired in their direction from the basement of the home.

Police tried to communicate with the subject while establishing a secure perimeter. The Critical Incident Response Team—a multi-jurisdictional tactical unit comprised of officers throughout Dickinson County—was called in. As CIRT arrived, another shot was fired from the basement.

CIRT negotiators successfully established contact with the subject, but communication was later interrupted. The individual then exited the basement unexpectedly, armed with a handgun. CIRT officers deployed less-than-lethal beanbag rounds to subdue the subject.

Michigan State Police, the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office, Kingsford Public Safety, the Norway Police Department, the Iron Mountain Fire Department, and Integrity Care EMS assisted at the scene.
