MSP Recruit School graduates head to UP posts

LANSING, MI— Fifty-two new troopers are joining the ranks of the Michigan State Police.

The 147th Trooper Recruit School held its graduation Thursday afternoon in Lansing. MSP Director Col. James F. Grady II administered the Oath of Office to the graduates, who will begin their assignments at MSP posts next week.

Five of those troopers will work in the Upper Peninsula:

  • Trooper Noah Misiak from Sault Ste. Marie is being assigned to the Sault Ste. Marie Post.
  • Trooper Jenna Laway from Cheboygan is being assigned to the St. Ignace Post.
  • Trooper Colin Barnhart from Escanaba is being assigned to the Gladstone Post.
  • Trooper Justine Havelka from Wallace and Trooper Mindy McKinnon from Crystal Falls are being assigned to the Iron Mountain Post. 
Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
