PESHTIGO, WI— The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Peshtigo.
Friday around 9:12 a.m., Marinette County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a vehicle in Marinette related to a suspicious death investigation in Dane County. The driver took off, leading multiple law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase south on US-41. The vehicle crashed near the intersection of northbound 41 and Schacht Road.
The driver exited the vehicle and approached officers. During the encounter, a deputy deployed a Taser, which was ineffective. Two officers with the Marinette Police Department discharged their weapons and hit the subject.
A sharp-edged weapon was found at the scene.
Life-saving measures were performed on the suspect, who was taken to the hospital and pronounced deceased.
No officers were injured.
The Marinette Police Department officers are on administrative leave, per agency policy. One of the officers was wearing a body cam and cameras in both their patrol cars activated.
The DOJ Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation. A report will be turned over to the Marinette County District Attorney’s Office when the investigation concludes.
