Gogebic County officials release details in Ironwood Township boy's death

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI— The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the death of a 2-year-old boy in Ironwood Township.

It happened March 19 at the intersection of Lake Road and Sunset Road. Officials say, unknown to family members, the boy exited his residence, went into the roadway, and was struck by a vehicle that was northbound on Lake Road between 4:00 and 4:41 a.m.

Vehicles that were northbound near the time of the crash have been identified. The drivers continue to cooperate with the investigation.

Officials have canvassed the area for surveillance videos and are reviewing available footage. Further details will be released once the investigation is complete.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
