Flying drones over the Soo Locks could get you in trouble, officials say

Map of no-fly zone over Soo Locks

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District is reminding residents that airspace restrictions remain over the Soo Locks.

Under federal regulations, unauthorized drone use over the Locks is prohibited due to national security, defense, and public safety concerns.

Officials say the Federal Aviation Administration and law enforcement agencies may take immediate enforcement action against operators, including substantial civil penalties and potential criminal charges.

The Corps says operators should verify all airspace restrictions before flight to ensure operations are safe and lawful.
