MARQUETTE, MI— The Marquette City Commission is urging the County Board of Commissioners to adopt a Computer-Aided Dispatch system the rest of the Upper Peninsula is transitioning to.
CAD manages 911 calls, coordinates emergency response, and tracks responders in real time. In February, the County Board voted to go with Motorola Solutions to provide CAD operations, citing $500,000 in savings over the Tyler Technologies platform.
Fourteen of the U.P.’s 15 counties and the Michigan State Police are transitioning to Tyler Technologies, which is preferred by entities such as the Marquette County Central Dispatch Advisory Board, the U.P. 911 Authority, and the North CAD Group, a consortium of U.P. counties and regional dispatch providers working to implement the Tyler Technologies CAD platform.
Marquette Police Chief Ryan Grim says going with Motorola could isolate Marquette county from the assistance of neighboring counties it’s had for years.
“We need their help. We’re kind of an area that doesn’t have the number of resources that lower Michigan has or anywhere else has. We have to work together, and this interoperability is what we’ve had, I mentioned, since 2011. We are going backwards if we don’t do this.”
Monday night, the City Commission unanimously approved a resolution asking the County Board to adopt the Tyler Technologies CAD platform.
