Military aircraft relocating to Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport

MARQUETTE, MI— Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport is serving as a base for military aircraft through the summer and early fall.

The 127th Wing out of Selfridge Air National Guard Base in downstate Harrison Township will conduct flight operations and maintenance on four KC-135 Stratotankers. The airport will be the base for the Stratotankers, with two other aircraft functioning as transient shuttles.

Officials say the military presence will not affect commercial airline operations.

They say the temporary relocation is an opportunity for Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport and the surrounding community to interact with military partners.
