MARQUETTE, MI— Joint training for the Michigan National Guard, law enforcement, and rescue agencies will take place Monday through Thursday in the Upper Peninsula.
Michigan State Police say Operation Iron Wave will begin in Marquette and end in Sault Ste. Marie.
Monday and Tuesday there will be activity around Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport, downtown Marquette, Mattson Lower Harbor Park, and Northern Michigan University’s campus.
On Wednesday, personnel and equipment will travel to the Soo. Drivers may experience traffic delays due to slower-moving military and emergency response vehicles.
On Thursday, there will be activity in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, including around the Soo Locks. Some areas near the locks may be temporarily restricted. People can expect to see helicopters and specialized vehicles in the area during the exercise.
Officials say the exercise is designed to strengthen coordination, interoperability, and emergency response readiness among local, state, and federal partners.
