Missing child with Down Syndrome found safe in Houghton County

HOUGHTON COUNTY, MI— A 9-year-old boy who went missing in Houghton County over the weekend is now back with his family.

The Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 2:45 p.m. Sunday. The boy with Down Syndrome walked away from his father while they were in the woods behind a family member’s house on Lower Worham Road.

Michigan State Police and their K-9 unit, the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, Michigan Tech Public Safety, the Department of Natural Resources, Superior Search and Rescue, and several deputies responded to search for the boy.

About an hour later the child came out of the woods just east of the family residence toward the road. He was uninjured and in good spirits.
