Palmer-area residents asked to check cameras, out buildings, for missing woman

PALMER, MI— Now that power has been restored in the Palmer area, Michigan State Police investigators are asking the public to check home surveillance cameras for any footage of a missing woman.

Helen Kontio, 65, was reported missing from the Marigold Assisted Living Facility Monday afternoon. She was reportedly last seen near the Palmer softball field around 9 p.m. that day.

Search crews continue to look for Kontio. Police are asking people who live in the area to check their cameras, out buildings and residences for any information that may help in finding her.

Kontio is 5’4” and 195 pounds. She was last seen wearing a blue and gold shirt, blue jean capri pants, white tennis shoes and a dark blue jacket.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
